Halloween!

Thank you to our 8th Grade buddies for a fabulously fun Halloween Party! They (and all the first graders) had some amazing costumes. It is always optional but most of them dress up. I always invite students to my house, but it was a pretty lousy Halloween as far as weather was concerned. Unlike some who want to cancel, I’m all for it no matter how it turns out. My own kids have trick-or-treated in cold and/or rainy weather through the years. To me, Halloween is on October 31. We can always come home and have hot chocolate. It makes for great memories…”Remember the Halloween when it snowed?” I didn’t expect any of my students to show up, but one did. Although you can’t tell it, my costume is an owl (it would have been more obvious if I had pulled up my hood). The onesie was sure appropriate for the cold weather!

First Snow!

Well, it was Halloween itself when we saw our first few flakes of snow. That always bring so much excitement to our classroom. I LOVE snow, and especially the way I see children’s faces light up with glee when those first few flakes fall. You could barely see these flakes, but the first graders were still excited. Unfortunately when we had our more recent snow (3-4 inches), I was away from school for my husband’s surgery, so I missed the excitement. I am hoping we’ll have more! They all rush to the window and look out…such sweet innocence. We should all be more child like.

We tried out a few different types of apples to find our favorite (along with some yummy caramel dip)!

Grandparents Day is always one of our most popular and fun days! I try to capture everyone. I can’t promise I did, but here is what I have. I hope our grandparents and special guests enjoyed the day.

Country Fair 2019

I made it to Country Fair both nights and saw a few of my current and former students! What a great weekend and what beautiful weather!

We came with Annabelle (2) and Benny (7 months) on Friday, and Annabelle (again), and Perrin (1 1/2) the second night (along with his mommy and daddy). I loved visiting with some current and former students, eating that delicious pork, and taking Annabelle for a ride on the carousel. It has been a long time since I’ve enjoyed the “midway” since my own children were at St. Malachy. Now I get to begin reliving it!

Ellery’s Home Visit

This is my second visit to Evelyn’s home, since I visited when I had her big sister, Ellery. Ellery and her family welcomed me with open arms. I love my visits! Ellery showed me around. She even has “Alexa” in her bedroom to turn her lights on and off (and probably do some other tasks..I hope she doesn’t do Ellery’s homework for her.) We had a lovely visit. Ellery LOVES her family. I know…of course, we ALL love our families. It’s just that I can tell how important they are to her in her writing. She often writes in great detail about them in her weekend journal.

Thanks to Ellery and her family for inviting me…again!

Jackson’s Home Visit

I am so behind and don’t like to miss getting home visits posted shortly after I make them. Unfortunately, I missed posting Jackson’s home visit which was a couple of days prior to my birthday, and I received another sweet surprise…yum! (Thank you!).

Jackson was SO warm, welcoming, and affectionate. I love my home visits. I’ve said this before, but I can’t say it enough. It gives me an opportunity to get to know my students on a different level, and when patience wears thin in the classroom, I’m able to bring to mind that child as he or she is outside of school. It helps me a lot, means a lot to me, and I hope it means a lot to them and that they will remember the time their first grade teacher visits.

Here we are with his sweet pup, and I’m include a photo of my sweet surprise which I thoroughly enjoyed and did not share with Mr. Hannon! Thank you for inviting me!

Back in September….

My birthday usually coincides with Country Fair, but this year it fell a week early. I sure received a lot of sweets from my “sweets.” My students and you parents are so wonderful, supportive, and thoughtful. You made my day (actually my year…I’m still working on those sweets, trying to not overindulge!)
