Our Tree Through Time

Over the past couple of months we have added some different things to our tree. In January/February we learned about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With some better weather recently, I have also removed the snow! Spring is just about here.

For St. Patrick’s Day we celebrated with a writing “craftivity,” along with a cookie, drink, and treat bag. We also enjoyed some fun stories about St. Patrick’s Day history and really fun Irish folktale. Did you know some of you are worth more than gold to your children? 🙂

Of All the Excuses! :)

I have heard all the excuses for missing homework, tardies, etc……or so I thought!

Today (and please know I don’t ask students why they are late), a tardy excuse was offered to me in this form: “Mrs. Hannon I am tardy because there was a crawdaddy in my driveway and my daddy had to wrestle it off the driveway.”

This made my day!

Ground Hog’s Day

We had a bit of fun reading about the ground hog (woodchuck) on Ground Hog’s Day. We even went on line and checked out Pauxatauney Phil’s prediction which (for the first time in many years) predicted an early Spring. We read a few picture books, including one that explained where this tradition originated. We read about several other famous ground hog’s around the country and in Canada. You’ll see from the picture that I also added some snow to our seasonal tree. This is the first year I have put up a display with the intent of keeping it all year long. It has been a lot of fun!
